Physical Therapy

Our Physical Therapy program is designed to help you regain the strength and mobility needed for you to move in a functional, pain-free range. With today’s work environment, seated and repetitive, it is very easy for bad habits to take over and cause anatomical deficiencies that will ultimately lead to your pain. A major focus of our program is to get the patient educated on what key muscles and bad habits are causing their pain and then get them involved in a therapy program that addresses these issues. We strive to empower you with the skills needed to maintain a healthy body.

As with most anything, it is not what you do but how you do it. We make sure our patients are doing the right exercises and stretches and that they are performing them in the most correct, effective ways. We feel this is extremely important not only to the quality of your rehab but also in preparing you to better continue exercises on your own once you are done with our program.

The human body was meant to move. Often when we have pain, we stop moving. However, a lack of movement in the body makes it less capable than before. Our first goal is to get you out of pain with gentle stabilizing and stretching activities.

Once your pain has subsided and you can move in a pain-free range, you can start to build a foundation of stability for your body. muscles will begin to strengthen and build endurance. You will notice more energy, a more upright posture and less tension in your problematic areas. The increase in strength will provide your body with its natural corset which will absorb the forces that were previously being sent through the spine. Also, with increased flexibility in your muscles you will have less tension being applied to your spine.

The Austin and San Antonio Pro-Care Spine & Medical Center locations have over 1000 sq. ft. area dedicated to rehabilitative stretching, exercises and strength building.

Full Evaluation

Posture Alignment

Posture is everything! Everyone needs good posture to maintain proper health. It will ultimately have an impact on almost every aspect of your body, including your emotions and your presence in the world. We will evaluate your current posture and inform you of how it relates to your pain. We will also incorporate a therapy program customized to your body that will work to strengthen and stretch the appropriate muscles and joints for you to become more naturally aligned.

Ergonomics

The importance of how you carry yourself in the workplace cannot be overstated. There is a right and a wrong way and it will play a major role in the overall condition of your body. We will educate you on the correct principles needed to safely position yourself in your working environment.

Gait

How you move in space and communicate your body with the ground will greatly affect your anatomical health. While its often a poor gait that played a part in your current condition, it will be a habitual change for the good that will dissipate the forces from the ground through your body in a more even fashion. We can heal you with this!

Plan to Re-Gain Movement

Joint Mobilizations

Gravity, stress and long term bad habits will limit how much your body will be able to move. Over time, your joints will conform to an unaligned state that must be addressed in order for your body to be more balanced and better able to absorb forces. Mobilizations from you physical therapist will help regain this needed range.

Soft Tissue Mobilizations

Restrictions in your tissue (superficial skin, muscle, scar tissue) can severely limit your available range of motion. With careful examination and professional treatment, we can release these restrictions to allow more movement in your body.

At-Home Program

Exercise Prescriptions

Your time with us is designed to create a new foundation for your body. When you leave, you will not be going without direction. We will help you understand the most important principles behind exercise as well as target areas to focus on. We will listen to you and your specific goals in order to design an exercise program that will allow you to build on the foundation you have created. We encourage our patients to continue with their program in order to not only see, but feel the benefits of total fitness.

Self-Empowerment and Control

You will leave us with something you didn’t have before arriving at the Pro-Care Spine Center. You will have an understanding of where pain comes from and how to attack it. While bad habits put you in pain, it will ultimately be good habits that assure your long-term recovery. This lifestyle change as well as your newfound knowledge of how to understand and listen to your body will leave you more healthy than you were before.
